Optimizing Your Performance

Math is often taxing on the brain, so be kind to your mind and boost your mental capacity by following these simple tricks:

1. Drink Water
You've heard it a thousand times, but even 2% dehydration decreases memory and ability to focus. By the time you feel thirsty, your mental capacity can drop by 10%! So change that C on your report card to a B by reaching for a glass of water!

2. Eat a Healthy Snack
Brain cells require two times as much energy as other cells in your body, so give them the fuel they need. Afterall, a hungry body is a stressed, distracted body and just the process of eating well makes us feel calmer and satisfied.

3. Calm the Anxiety
Math can be scary and seriously stressful, but a stressed and fearful brain can't think. Stop "hating math" and try to make the experience as positive as possible - trust me, it will get easier with time. Try to remember times when you've felt successful with math and congratulate/reward yourself for successes while minimizing mistakes.

At Math Wizardry we try to promote these thought provoking habits. We do what we can to keep you hydrated, ameliorate your worries, and rejoice in your triumphs. Remember - MATH IS FUN!

Math Wizardry?

Sounds kinda geeky, huh? Well, that's because I'm kinda geeky - hello, I'm a math tutor! Mostly I chose this name to impart the feeling that while math can be mystifying and difficult, anyone can learn to do it - it just takes practice, concentration, and someone to show you some tricks of the trade. So here I am, ready to guide you on your path to becoming a math wizard!

Don't think you're cut out to be a math wizard? A wise man once said: shoot for the moon so if you miss you will still be among those with a passing grade...or the stars... or something like that. After all, who knows what can happen when you discover the magic of math!

Why Do I Need To Learn Math Anyway?

Math is about more than a bunch of random symbols doing their level best to confuse and distress you. It's about learning to think and problem solve. It's about stretching your mind and growing. It's about patience and attention to detail. It's about recognizing patterns, following sequences, and so much more!

So sure, you may never need to find the area of a circle (then again, you might) but you will definitely need the skills learned while learning math - EVERY DAY!

The Benefits of Group Tutoring

One-on-one tutoring has a number of disadvantages. Besides being quite costly, the tutor can easily fall into the trap of helping too much and the student can miss the opportunity of being independently successful. Small group tutoring assures that a student gets individual attention and assistance, but cuts down on costs and keeps the tutor from rescuing the student at the first signs of difficulty. The best part about small group tutoring is the chance for students to help each other. This puts the students in a position to teach (what better way to learn?!) and to be successful.
